The questions about the external paint and the exterior painting section contains many good questions and answers about choosing and painting paint.
Questions about exterior paints and exterior painting
Linseed oil paint & petroleum oil paint
Why choose a traditional oil paint when painting an exterior wall?
The wood surface painted with Uula's oil paints breathes freely through the paint layer. The surface painted with plastic binders does not pass through water vapor, so if moisture is released into the wood cracks or otherwise, the moisture will not evaporate through the dense surface, but will decompose the wood and remove the paint.
Which paint is better suited to the painting of the exterior wall, Uula Petrolery Oil or Uula Linseed Oil paint?
Both goals have their advantages and the choice depends entirely on the object to be painted. The advantage of linseed oil paint is the durability and sufficiency of the paint. The surface painted with linseed oil paint is harder to withstand consumption and heavy weather conditions. However, linseed oil paint requires skill and patience from the painter, as too thick the paint layer may wrinkle as it dries. It is easier to paint with petroleum oil paint and covers the time, giving a beautiful and high quality result when the painting is done with a rich paint. The petroleum oil paint is more porous and thus dries faster.
What to consider when painting with linseed oil paint?
When painting with linseed oil paint, you must remember to paint the thin layers with a tight brush. It is a good idea to thin the paint on the first time, as the too thick coat of paint wrinkles as it dries. Choosing the right painting equipment ensures the best result. For example, in exterior painting, brushes for painting plastic binding paints are not suitable for painting with linseed oil paints. It is a good idea to choose a high quality, stubborn and bushy natural bridge brush from the paintings. Usually, you should not use a paintbrush more than 100 mm wider.
Can I paint an old Uula Petrolery Oil painted with Uula linseed oil paint? What about the other way around?
You can paint the old Uula Petrolery Oil painted with Uula linseed oil paint. However, if the old surface was originally painted with Uula linseed oil paint, we also recommend using Uula Linseed Oil.
Can I paint Uula with linseed oil or Uula with petroleum oil paint on an old plastic binder paint surface?
You can paint with both paints on top of a plastic binder paint as long as you carefully remove any loose and poorly attached old paint.
In which direction do I paint with Uula Petrolery Oil or Uula Linseed Oil?
Top down and, as possible, parallel to the boards or logs.
Roslag's mahogany
Can Uula Roslag be painted on any paint on the mahogany?
Uula petroleum oil paint and Uula linseed oil paint are certified for the painting, provided that at least one year has passed. If the surface has been treated twice with the Roslag mahong, you should expect at least two years.
Can Roslag Mahong be applied to the wall using a syringe?
Roslag's mahogany can be sprayed on the wall to be painted, but the surface must still be brushed in the direction of the log or board and preferably from end to end with one stroke. The surface becomes so smooth.
In which direction do I paint with Uula Roslag's mahogany?
Roslag's mahogany should always be applied in the direction of the wood causes, starting at the top of the wall.
I painted the walls with Roslag's mahogany and the paint ran out. I get a new jar, but now the shade is not the same. Why?
The tar itself is a natural product made by burning that does not have a color code - so the different batches of the Roslag mahogany (like all tar paints) may have differences in tone due to the color differences of the tar. Therefore, we recommend that you reserve a sufficiently sufficient paint for a uniform surface to avoid shade differences. In the light shade, possible color differences differ more than darker shades.
Soup
How long does the cooking paint remain in an open and unopened jar?
The cooking paint remains in an unopened jar for a few years of its production date. When opened, the product will remain for a few weeks. It is a good idea to keep the open product cool. The cooking paint is also sensitive to freezing, so storage of an unopened jar should be made in a warm space during the winter.
A white "frost" has appeared on the cooking paint. What is it and how do you get it out?
This is the salts of the iron sulphate used to make cooking paint. Salts usually disappear spontaneously and are aesthetic disadvantage. The points can be cleaned with clean water using a soft brush.
Can I paint Uula with petroleum oil on top of the old cooking paint?
Yes you can. However, careful groundwork plays an important role in this. We recommend that you do this:
- Wash the old cooking paint well with a high -pressure washer. If you do not have a high pressure washer, use a steel brush and wash the surface well with water and, for example, with Uula paint detergent. The purpose is to remove the loose cooking material to ensure the adhesion of the new paint surface. If there is mold on the surface, use Uula mold detergent when washing the surface.
- Allow the surface to dry for about a day and then the primer with Uula Home Protection. You can apply the substance to the surface, for example, using a garden spray. A thin layer is enough. Allow to dry for a day.
- Thin Uula Petrolery Oil with 20 % Uula with wood oil and paint once thick.
Iron sulfate
I want a gray and aging -looking exterior wall and a pier. I heard that iron sulfate can be grayed by the wood surface. What do you recommend?
Iron sulfate can be grayed by wood, but instead we recommend handling exterior wood surfaces with Uula Roslag's mahong, Uula wood oil or Uula with terrace oil, depending on the object. Iron sulfate is not a finished product or surface treatment agent and its final color cannot be known.
Can I iron sulfate be used on the inside of the sauna and on the boards?
Can't. The inside of the sauna, the benches, the railing trees and the benches can be painted with Ilona with a sauna, where you can choose a shade of gray color.
Can I iron sulfate be used indoors?
Can't. The product is intended for outdoor use. Iron sulfate needs sunlight to gray. For interior painting of the interior walls, we recommend Ilona to paint or for covering an Into interior paint.
How can you gray wood?
The graying of wood can be done with iron sulfate. Because iron sulfate is not a finished product or surface treatment agent, we are not responsible for color errors, stains or other surface changes due to iron sulfate treatments. We recommend our products for painting and other surface treatment.
I treated the exterior walls with iron sulfate water and was able to splash into windows and plinths. How do I get them clean?
Iron sulfate water stains unprotected surfaces and is not always possible to clean them. Before treatment, all surfaces intended to be untreated must be protected very well to avoid any stains. The rain may also remove iron sulphate from the treated surface, which is reflected in rust, eg in the plinth.
Other questions about exterior paints and exterior painting
When should you paint?
The best exterior painting time is from May to the end of August and the best painting weather is cloudy. The painting must not be made in the rain, in direct sunlight or on a damp or sun -heated surface. The humidity should be less than 80% and preferably at least +5 degrees. The surface to be painted must be dry and the moisture of the wood is less than 15%. After the rain, the surface to be painted must be allowed to dry properly before starting the painting. Oil paints are characterized by slow drying, which is worth considering when designing painting. It is always a good idea to always do painting and handling the terraces and docks, taking into account natural conditions.
How can you recognize the old quality of the paint?
It is a good idea to look at exterior paints and surface treaters in advance. When designing maintenance painting or other surface treatment, it is a good idea to find out the previous processing agent or paint to ensure the adhesion and stability of the paint.
- The old paint painted with oil paint is chalked. It may leave color in the fingers when hanging. The oil paint surface cracks screen and, when bent, clicks across.
- The paint that has been removed from the old paint painted with water -borne acrylate paint is flexible and unbroken. The cracks in the paint surface are formed parallel to the causes of the wood.
- Cooking paint (traditional red paint) can be identified from a floury surface. In addition, the paint surface is porous and dim. When touching it, the color is left in the fabric dipped in fingers or water.
Is one painting enough?
The number of paintings depends on many different factors, such as the paint's own feature, whether a opaque or translucent paint is used, whether it is a first painting or a maintenance painting, whether the purpose is to change color or how much the groundwork is affected by the surface to be painted. If the old paint surface is in good condition and does not flake and service painting in the same shade as before, one painting may be sufficient. In the case of a first painting or changing the shade, it is a good idea to be prepared for two paintings. It is very important to consider the own recommendation and painting instructions for the paint type you use.
How much paint is needed?
Paint sales are influenced by the surface to be treated and its condition. The absorption of the paint is influenced by the porosity of the wood, the degree of drying of the wood and the roughness of the wood surface. The paintings also affect the amount of paint. Different paints and surface treatment agents mention the average amount of paint, which, under normal circumstances, is sufficient for different surfaces and paint grades. Our paint counter will help you assess the number of goals you need. Enter the material to be painted in the counter and its area to get enough paint in liters. Our paint calculator can be found on the product page of each product.
Primer and groundwork?
Do I need to handle the surface with Uula Home Protection before priming with Uula outsole paint? How do I know which surface is worth priming?
No need. If you handle the surface with Uula underground paint, separate mold protection treatment is unnecessary. If you paint a new, unpainted wooden surface with Uula Petrolery Oil or Uula Linseed Oil, we recommend the surface priming with UU ULA. Uula outsourced paint, among other things, improves the adhesion and coverage of the topcoat, in addition to providing excellent protection against mold spores. In other cases, we recommend Uula Home Protection as a primer.
