The log is a building material that is near the heart of architect Jussi Hietalahti. The log is a material that simultaneously requires great accuracy, both in the choice of paint and in the painting method. Over the years, Jussi Hietalahti has designed a variety of log houses. An example of a larger public wooden building is the Ruovesi Parish Center. As the former building had to be demolished due to indoor air problems, the congregation decided that in the future it would become a healthy and ecological house for breathable materials. The Parish Center has attracted a lot of attention and admiration, for example, from its black facade, which has been discussed with the Mahong of Roslag of Uula. The paint gives the building a modern and valuable impression. The main entrance is white, partly to create contrast and to illuminate the whole, but also for practical reasons. “The main entrance is south and it is painted white to prevent the surface from getting hot so that the resin can drizzle through,” says Jussi Hietalahti, and advises to take into account the weather conditions in painting wood surfaces.
Detective work produced results
Among many of the works, Himla's architectural firm is the renovation design of the villa designed by architect Lars Sonck and Birger Federley. The villa is located in Näsijärvi. The National Romantic Villa was originally built on the merchant Abraham Tirkkola in 1901 and served as a long summer residence before it moved to private ownership a few years ago. Jussi Hietalahti considers it important that historically valuable buildings are used in the life of the construction period. "At some point, the villa was painted green and to find the original colors, we had to do a little looking for a job. In the end, we managed to trace an older woman who had personal memories of what the wool looked like and the color photo from the villa. Then we found the colors that responded," Jussi says. Uulan Roslag's mahogany , linseed oil and kerosene oil paint are products that are often used for Himla's projects.
“All new environmental regulations are naturally good and necessary for the environment, but at the same time they pose major challenges for the paint industry. I appreciate Uula's continuous development work and their good products that meet all the requirements , says Jussi Hietalahti.
Quality paints make it easier for architects - traditional goals complement the whole

Renovation of old and historically valuable buildings is more than just being presented by the old surface. For architect Pekka Sads, the use of traditional materials and paints is also important for the whole. The roots of the Architectural Office, Sader, date back to the 1950s. Since 2005, the family business has been managed by architects Pekka and Emilia Satatsi. Customers from all over Finland are served from Helsinki and Porvoo offices. The architectural firm's specialties include the renovation of old and protected buildings, such as mansions, churches and villas. They also draw new houses that emphasize healthy lifestyles and sustainable houses of natural materials. Regardless of the type of work, all material and product choices are made carefully.
"Of course, when designing a new one, it is important that all surface treatment materials are in accordance with the construction objectives of healthy and sustainable houses, Pekka says." It is also more than just surface and appearance. The buildings must be functional as a physical entity and the materials are genuine. The use of traditional paints is therefore central. ”
Quality from start to finish
Restoration of the Porvoo Cathedral and Qvidja Manor are examples of design tasks performed by Architectural Office Sader. Among the most recent works is the restoration of the Vantaa City Museum, located in the old Tikkurila station building. The handsome brick house from 1962 has been renewed to its splendor and has been painted inside Uula's interior paint, which has received many loyal users because of its complete odorlessness.
“We have noticed that it is an excellent product for many interior surfaces. It is also a pleasant use,” says Pekka Tasadi. "In the restoration of wood façades, historically valuable objects are usually selected on linseed oil paint, while cooking paint is used for outbuildings. These paints also have a good selection for Uula Color."
