It is a good idea to carefully paint the exterior door so that it can withstand not only the weather caused by the weather, but also the knocks of a fun-filled life.

Exterior door painting consists of seven stages:

  1. Removing old paint and washing the surfaces
  2. The frosting and grinding of the holes
  3. The protection of unpainted parts
  4. Mold protection
  5. Priming
  6. Spacing
  7. Topcoat

In the case of a new, previously unpainted exterior door, the first two steps will be left out, and the work can be started with the protection of windows and other unpainted parts in the door.

For painting a wooden front door, we recommend Uula Linseed Oil . Hand-tinted linseed oil is tinted with genuine ground pigments that are very resistant to the sun's UV radiation. The exterior door must be high-quality to withstand not only the weather caused by the weather and the living of wood, but also the mechanical exertion of the lively family life. Uula Puu oil which can also be tinted, is suitable for hearing, such as the service to be heard, which can also be tinted.

Exterior door painting begins with groundwork

Before painting the front door, all the old loose or poorly attached paint is removed with a paint cabinet or a steel brush. Use eye and respiratory protectors to remove the paint. If there are several layers of paint, you can use the mild scented Uula paint removal , which softens several layers so that they can easily be scraped off. If the paint is removed only in places, it is good to sand the remaining paint. Note that the edges of the thin layer of paint can appear as unevenness through the new paint surface. To achieve the best result, all the old paint is removed through the entire door surface.

The surface is washed on the surface, soot and any grease stains on the surface with Uula paint or mold washing as needed. It is advisable to use mold washing if there are small black commas or greenish algae growth on the surface.

If the door has a exposed wood surface that has been exposed to sunlight for a longer period of time and is grayed and lint, the surface is sanded on a solid, fresh "wood surface and the sanding dust is cleaned.

Preparations before painting

Before painting, unpainted parts, such as windows or door handle, are protected if it is in place. Note that it is a good idea to remove the paint tape as soon as possible after painting so that it will not leave the glue stains or pull the paint with it.

Mix the paint thoroughly before painting and during painting. It is a good idea to check the shade before starting the painting by painting a separate biopsy. Note that the final color of the paint is only visible when the paint dries properly.

If the door is removed and treated indoors, note that linseed oil paint needs light and heat to dry. The best linseed oil paint dries outdoors. However, direct sunshine must be avoided.

Before painting, the surface is recommended to be treated with Uula Home Protection , which is applied to the surface and allowed to dry. A day drying time is good enough.

Thinned paint is used for bottom and intermediate painting

The exterior door must be carefully painted to make the surface durable. Linseed oil paint is best spread with a sturdy brush. The surface to be painted must be clean and dry, less than 80% of the relative humidity of the air and at least +10 degrees.

Thin the linseed oil for primer 15-20% Uula with an oil paint that contains Vernissa. Spread the paint thinly, with a tight wood scaby, as the too rich paint layer wrinkles as it dries. Several thin layers also guarantee thorough absorption and durable surface. Also treat all possible cross -sectional surfaces. Allow to dry.

The linseed oil paint is touched dry for 2-3 days and can be painted after 4 days. An intermediate painting can be done after a couple of days of drying, but before the topcoat, the surface must be allowed to dry properly, at least 4 days.

If there are holes or gaps on the door that need filling and smoothing, they will be paved after the primer dries. When the kit dries, the surface is sanded and the sanding dust is carefully cleaned. When using a linseed oil with linseed oil paint, you don't have to wait for the squeak to dry, but you can paint a fresh linseed oil with linseed oil. Of course, the linseed oil stick is not grinding, but it is easy to smooth with a putty knife or a spatula.

Thin the paint to 10-15%. Apply the paint again thinly to the wood scabies. Allow to dry for 4 days before the topcoat. If unevenness has appeared on the surface as the paint dries, the surface can be lightly sanded before the topcoat.

When the intermediate painting is completely dry, the door surfaces can be painted. There is no need for paint for finished painting and should not be thinned. However, if the paint feels very stiff and difficult to apply, it can be thinned up to 10%. Alternatively, the paint can be heated in a water bath before starting to paint, making it easier to apply and spread.

To get a flat surface, paint the surfaces in parallel lanes. Allow to dry for 4 days. Handle new paintwork with care. Although the surface is dry, the paint will still harden for a whole month, when sharp objects may damage the surface.
