Pre -treatment of new exterior wood surfaces

Pre -treatment of new exterior wood surfaces before painting. Careful pre -treatment of the substrate improves the adhesion of the top coat and extends the service painting interval. Well done groundwork ensures a neat and durable result. Pre -treatment should always be done according to the platform and the selected paint type. The board surfaces should be primed or primed and surface treated as soon as possible, as the unprotected wood surface is sensitive to the load on UV radiation and moisture.

New, untreated timber

  • The paint is best adhered to on a coarse surface, so the smooth wood surface must be roughened before painting. Carpet improves the absorption and infection of surface treatment agents and increases the age of surface treatment. Instead of roughing, a new planed and planer log surface can be allowed to expire for 1-2 years protected by a primer.
  • It is a good idea to apply a clean and dry wood surface with Uula Home Protection, , if the primer is not done immediately.
  • The end surfaces of the board must also be treated with a surface treatment agent. Otherwise, the water/humidity may be absorbed into the structures through it.
  • When using a covering paint, the primer is a new wood surface according to the Uula outsider's instructions to get a good adhesive surface for the top paint. Primer painting can also be done with 20% thinned topcoat. Please note that Uula cooking paint, Roslag's mahogany, wood oil or outdoor oil do not require primer.
  • The moisture percentage of the wood surface must be less than 15%to prevent moisture from removing the paint.

Pre -treated timber

  • The timber used for facade boarding is also industrially applied.
  • Primered boards are surface painted 1-2 times depending on the type of paint.
  • For our industrially primed timber, our exterior paints are Uula linseed oil paint,  Uula Petrolery Oil and Bio -Based Uula Linen Oil.
  • Primered boards cannot be used when the surface is intended to be treated with a translucent painting or surface treatment product such as Uula Roslag's mahogany , Uula wood oil or  Uula terrace oil. Hearing treatments are always done on a new or old untreated or previously treated with non-film wood preservatives. For our industrially primed timber, our exterior paints are Uula linseed oil paint, Uula Petrolery Oil and Bio -Based Uula Linen Oil.
  • If the primer is done by yourself, it is advisable to tint the primer in the surface. Uula outsole paint can be tinted in the shades of the most common color charts.
  • Uula cooking paint is not suitable for primed timber.

Pre -treatment of old exterior wood surfaces

It is best to start pre -treatment of old exterior wood surfaces by checking the condition of the tree actually. Wood or decaying wood will not make the paint or surface treaters better. The unprotected wood surface is quickly exposed to the effects of the sun, water and fungi, making the wood surface gray and purse. On such a surface, the paint does not stick to.

Old, untreated timber

  • Washing is recommended for pre -treatment of an outdated / freezed wood surface with Uula paint or, if necessary, with Uula mold washing, as well as grinding the surface to remove gray lint and thus ensure the adhesion of the paint.
  • Dirt and sanding dust should be removed by brushing from the surface.
  • The wood surface is treated with Uula Home Protection if the surface treatment is done with a product to be heard, such as Roslag's mahogany , Uula wood oil or Uula outdoor oil . Please note that before the surface treatment, the wood surface is allowed to dry properly. Moisture swells the wood and the wood shrinks as it dries. Please note that before the surface treatment, the wood surface is allowed to dry properly. The paint does not stick to the moist painted surface.
  • The wood surface is primed with Uula underground paint or thinning the surface if the surface treatment is done with a covering paint - except for the traditional cooking paint. Make a primer according to the product instructions and allow the primer to dry well before the topcoat.

Pre -treatment of old painted exterior wood surfaces

Before painting previously painted surfaces, it is a good idea to look at the surface to be painted more closely. Possible damage to the surface affects how the surface should be pre -treated in order to re -paint as well as possible and the result will be beautiful and durable. However, it is worth noting that paint or decaying wood is not better than the surface treatment agents.

A bad, old paint finish

  • Old and several times the painted paint may occur in cracking, detachment or bubbles.
  • Dirty surfaces are washed with Uula paint detergent and moldy surfaces with Uula mold detergent according to the operating instructions. You can use a garden hose and brush to wash the surfaces.
  • Poor, scaly, cracking and loose paint is preferably removed by scraping. Thick and old paint layers can also be removed with Uula paint remover , according to the instructions. What is important for the removal of the paint is that the method used does not break the surface of the wood or cause the structures to get wet.
  • The grayed/fluffy wood surface is sanded to stick and absorb the new paint as well as possible.
  • If the treatments are done poorly, the old loose paint, a linked wood surface, or too damp, may also cause the new paint to come off.
  • Possible cavities and cracks are shaped and leveled as needed.
  • The surface to be treated is cleaned of dust and loose material.
  • If the old paint is only partially removed, the wood -clean surfaces will be painted with a 20% thinned top coat.

In good condition, the old paint finish

  • If the old paint is in good condition and well in its base, the topcoat can be made on the old paint.
  • Before painting, it is a good idea to find out what type of paint the surface has previously been treated. It is advisable to use the same or the same type of paint for repainting.
  • Possible loose old paints are removed by scraping and cleaning the surface by brushing the dust and loose material.
  • Before painting, dirty surfaces are washed with Uula paint detergent and moldy surfaces with Uula mold detergent according to the operating instructions. You can use a garden hose and brush to wash the surfaces.
  • The substrate must be allowed to dry very well before the surface treatment and the wood must be dry when the painting is started.
  • The wood -clean areas are primed with a thinned top paint and allow the primer to dry properly before the surface painting.

Pre -treatment of the old cooking paint surface

  • Remove the loose old color from previously painted surfaces, eg with a sturdy root brush.
  • If you change the color, carefully remove the old color, for example, with water pressure washing and allow to dry well before painting.
  • Wash the moldy surface with Uula mold washing according to the instructions and allow to dry properly.
  • Treat the cleaned surface with Uula Home Protection.
  • Paint one time with plenty of paint. If you paint two thick unspoiled paint layers, the paint surface may hatch.
