Maintenance painting maintains the value and condition of the wooden house. Therefore, it is advisable to do maintenance painting in good time before any damage requires structural repairs.

Maintenance painting in a nutshell

  • Find out what kind of paint the building has previously been painted. Select the paint type accordingly.
  • Remove the loose paint with a steel brush and scraper. Clean the dirt thoroughly.
  • Wash the dirty surface with Uula paint cleaning and moldy surface with Uula mold cleaning.
  • Rinse thoroughly, but avoid excessive watering.
  • Let the washed surfaces dry well before painting
  • Replace poor wooden parts with new ones.
  • Place paint on wood -clean (or untreated) surfaces and allow to dry according to the paint type instructions. Cooking paint and Roslag's mahogany do not require primer painting.
  • Make a test painting before painting to ensure the color tone.
  • Book enough paint and paint the walls 1-2 times according to the paint instruction manual
  • Do not paint in direct sunlight, sun -heated surface, in damp air or in the rain.

Pre -treatments

  • Find out the condition of the structures
  • Replace poorly, softened/decay boards, etc., if the need arises. The paint does not stick to the fluffy or grayed surface.
  • Grind a new planed surface or allow to expire for 1-2 years to ensure infection
  • Remove the loose and poorly attached old paint with a steel cabinet or brush before washing.
  • Wash dirty paint surfaces with Uula paint detergent. Moldy surfaces with Uula mold detergent. Avoid unnecessary irrigation of wood surfaces.
  • Nail the raised nails before painting to prevent paint casting.
  • Remove any resin drains with a steel cabinet or brush before painting.
  • Protect other surfaces from possible splashes.

Priming and topcoating

  • Place paint on wood -clean surfaces with 20 % thinned oil paint and allow to dry according to the product instructions. Cooking paint and Roslag's mahogany do not require primer painting.
  • Make sure the primed or in good condition is clean and dry.
  • Ensure the color tone by test painting before painting.
  • Mix the paint thoroughly before and during painting.
  • Book and mix a sufficient paint in the same container for the uniform surface and paint at a time to avoid any shade differences.
  • Surface surfaces 1-2 times according to the instruction of the selected paint.
  • To get a smooth paint surface, paint the boards in the boarding lane up to a suitable break.
  • Also treat the cross -sectional surfaces of the timber carefully.
  • Note the drying times of the paints.

Tool cleaning, paint storage and prevention of environmental damage

  • Clean and wash the tools.
  • Dip into the water containing linseed oil, the tracks, rags, etc. you need to paint before destroying.
  • Store the paint in a tightly closed jar, preferably in a dry and cool place. Please note that water -borne paints cannot withstand frost.
  • Keep the paint out of reach of children.
  • Handle waste according to the instructions. Empty dry packaging can be delivered for recycling. Liquid waste must be delivered to the hazardous waste collection point.
