Painting instructions for Uula Roslag Mahogany

Application and conditions

Always stir Roslag Mahogany thoroughly before and during use. For large continuous surfaces mix a large enough batch to avoid differences in shade. Treat cross-sectional surfaces meticulously. We recommend using a paint brush. The surface to be painted must be dry and the moisture content of the wood less than 15 %. The relative air humidity must be below 80 % and the temperature a minimum of +5°C. Do not use in the rain or in direct sun light, or treat surfaces heated by the sun. In sunlight the surface may dry within 24 hours, in the shade drying may take up to 3–4 weeks. Withstands normal rain a few of hours after painting. Dense and newly planed surfaces may take significantly longer to absorb the product and dry.

Preparation: Wash dirty surfaces with Uula Paint Washing Agent and mouldy ones with Uula Mould Cleaning Agent. Remove old wood preservative that comes off easily with wire brush and scraper. Sand any weather worn loose wood fibre off the surface. A new, planed surface must be roughened before surface treatment or allowed to age for 1 year. Prime the surface with Uula Anti-Mould Agent at least 24 hours before painting.  Because Uula Roslag Mahogany is translucent, no primer is used.

Treatment: Apply two coats of Roslag Mahogany. Apply the second coat either immediately before the previous coat has dried, or after 1–2 years with repeated preparations. For maintenance treatments, use the original or slightly darker shade. To reduce the opacity of maintenance treatments, mix clear, untinted Roslag Mahogany with the colour at 1:1 ratio.

Coverage: Newly planed surfaces 8–10 m²/l, rough sawn surfaces 6–8 m²/l.

Thinner: Uula Roslag Mahogany does not need thinning.

Cleaning of equipment: Clean the tools with Uula Universal Thinner or with white spirit and finish off with water and soap.

Storage and prevention of environmental impact: Store in a dry, cool place, out of reach of children. Does not freeze. Empty and dry packaging can be recycled. All liquid waste must be taken to a hazardous waste collection point.

Caution: Linseed oil on cleaning cloths etc. may spontaneously combust. Oily rags and cloths should be burned or rinsed with water before putting in a rubbish bin.

Take care of the cleanliness of your painted exterior surfaces. For the durability of the paint and the wood underneath, it is worth cleaning and maintaining the surface regularly.
